MY STORY

As you can see from my picture, I am a blessed man. I have a wife and two wonderful sons. I also have a wonderful job. I am a full time preacher at a church in Athens, AL. As a preacher, I believe it's vitally important to follow God's will in my life. I felt like I was doing that in a lot of different areas, but there was one area where it was severely lacking: my finances.

I was in debt. My wife and I both went to a private college for four years and had several student loans. We had a credit card bill, a car payment, a mortgage...we were "normal." After paying all my bills, there was rarely enough money at the end of the month. Something had to change.

I came across The Dave Ramsey Show podcast and started listening every day. I began reading financial books, financial blogs, and listening to financial podcasts. My family and I decided to make huge sacrifices to live better financially. We sit down every month and make a detailed budget (something we never did before). We know where ever dollar of our money is going. Once we started our budget, we took every extra dollar and threw it at debt. We changed our lives. My interest in finances soon became a hobby, but my hobby has now become a passion.

While working as a preacher, I started coming across Bible verses about money. Did you know that there are more Bible verses about money than there are about heaven? God wants us to be wise with the things He has given us (Matthew 25:14-30). The more I read the Bible, the more I saw God's plan for our finances. I believe, as a preacher, part of my responsibility is to share what God's word has to say about money and how to manage it, but unfortunately many people shy away from talking about money. That's why I started Financial Freedom. I do not have a "get rich quick" scheme or a "5 Steps to becoming a millionaire." But what I do have are tools and principles that helped me get out of debt and start building wealth..and in the process, helped me deepen my faith in God.

My love and appreciation for God and His provisions have grown immensely since I first started my financial journey. I feel stronger in my faith, in my marriage, and as a parent because I am finally living God's will in every aspect of my life. I am not perfect and neither are you...that's why I want to help other people get a hold of their financial freedom.
